History of KDIS
In 1990, the only ice block-making machine was shipped out of Winnipeg. At that time,
Larry MacFarlane, who was working as a full time chef and the president of the
Winnipeg Ice Carving Association, along with his partner Jackie, decided to start their own part time hobby business.
The single ice block-maker purchased in 1991 was followed by another in 1992, three more in 1995 and three more in 1999. Larry quit working as a chef and became a full time professional ice sculptor. The final expansion occurred in 2001 where current ice making technology was improved upon and resulted in the
Krystal Dreams Ice Maker. Krystal Dreams Ice Sculptures currently has 13 ice block makers, is the only ice block maker in Winnipeg and the
third largest company of its kind in Canada.
Larry is an innovative ice sculptor, developing new ideas such as the martini bar and various uses of color in ice. He is also leading edge in the construction of large sculptures in Winnipeg, taking them apart, shipping to various locations in Canada and the United States and re-assembling on-site. Larry has wide international ice sculpting experience, including the
2002 Olympics at Salt Lake City Utah, and is one of the best ice sculptors in Canada.
